ISTANBULLU
May 16 / July 16 2000

Curated by Zishan Ugurlu PhD

The GALLERY at The Marmara Manhattan will present " ISTANBULLU: Three Generations " with works by Peter Dimiter Hristoff (1898 – 1979) ,Dimiter Hristoff (b.1926) and Peter Hristoff (b.1958) .The exhibition will open May 18 and run through July 29, 2000.

The exhibition will feature luminous landscapes of Istanbul painted in the 1920's by Peter Dimiter, the etchings of Dimiter Hristoff depicting historical monuments and locations in Istanbul as they appeared in the late 1940's and a selection of mixed media works from the 1990's by Peter Hristoff, that have been inspired by his birth place and the great city, ISTANBUL.

In this exhibition Peter Hristoff's "Poem" is a collection of images, a catch-all box of tracings of shadows, silhouettes of leaves and flowers and images created from anonymous photographs that combine to create a disjointed love poem to Istanbul. Peter Hristoff is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation grant and the New York Foundation for the Arts award in drawing. His work was most recently seen at the David Beitzel Gallery and at the Katonah Museum of Art.

The visions of these three artists capture the mystery and the beauty of Istanbul for a period that spans almost a hundred years.
