The Gallery at the Marmara - Manhattan is pleased to announce an extraordinary exhibition of paintings by Argun, who arrives in New York from a troubled region of the world.
Rich in imagery paintings by Turkish artist Argun captures a moment in the processes of the "Garland of Waters-Bosphorus" constant transformation combining the elements of photography and surrealism. Argun constructs his paintings on the tension of the coexistence of opposite extremes and remains open to a multiplicity of interpretations.
These paintings strike the viewers imagination. The fish belongs to "Garland of Waters" meets with mythological characters on the canvas under the bunch of grape sky accompanied by the Beatles' sound track. Dreamlike quality
pervades many of Argun's paintings. What captures the artist's fantasy is a moment in the midst of constant metamorphoses.
Gunduz Vassaf describes the paintings, as "Argun's paintings are like a contemporary fairy-tale- in his colorful lands we encounter one magical object after another. Yet, in that they're almost all everyday objects we
know from before, one is reminded of what Paul Valery says, "A work of art always shows us that what we have seen before, we have not seen..."
Argun's works are full of mystery, intrigue and enigma. They invite the viewer to join the Argun's world to contemplate and to enjoy the amazing imagination of the artist.
His extensive exhibition record includes most prominent galleries in Turkey. This exhibition is his first solo show in New York City and will travel the most prominent cities in U.S.
