November 18, 2005 - January 15, 2006 The Gallery at The Marmara-Manhattan is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Mark Tambella. Of this body of work Tambella writes, " This new series of paintings are fresh air works from Canaan New York and Johnson Vermont. The small flower pictures are from both planted gardens or randomly chosen spots in the woods with the larger pictures as landscapes from the forests nearby. Over the years the artist has worked almost entirely in his studio, doing narrative works based on dreams, erotic fantasies imagined and remembered experiences. As a result, his technique is characterized with a dreamlike mood and prescience that exists even in these predominantly representational works. The small paintings have the quality of being in motion and existing in time, as living objects with a beginning and an end. They are telling a larger story, partly expressed in the landscapes, partly expressed in the painting itself that at any given time of the hour or day, on any different day or season, these pictures would be quite distinctly different. As any different painting of the same object or idea, even by the same painter, would naturally be different. Our transience is bound with nature and in the observation of nature we see ourselves" Mark Tambella incorporates radiant palettes, broad swaths of paint and incredible sense of movement. The result is a rare, beautifully rendered paintings, all of them ethereally poetic. In the past years, Tambella's work has been exhibited in galleries including LA MaMa Galleria, PS 122, Bill Rice Studio Show. He was an assistant artist to Roberto Juarez for Public Work Commissions as Federal Courthouse, Grand Central Terminal. He was a visiting artist at American Academy in Rome in1997. He lives and works in New York.
