The Gallery at the Marmara Manhattan

Located in the lobby of The Marmara Manhattan, this impressive gallery space is a highlight of both the property and the neighborhood. The light-filled room has become a forum for both established and up-and-coming artists from the local and international art scenes. The Marmara Manhattan provides free public access to the gallery, open every day between 11am - 7 pm.

The Marmara Gallery is delighted to announce Funda Gulay Gunaydin's first solo exhibition in New York.

Istanbul-based sculptor-painter Gunaydin presents a selection of work under the title "Human(e)-Humanity In Time."

Gunaydin's unique work has combined virtuosic sculpture in wood, bronze and stone. Staging the oppositions between form and energy and object and process, she reveals the preoccupations of a philosopher. Her sculptures are darkly poetic and thoroughly engaging, inviting the viewer to complete the story implied by the clues of the ones who are leaving or staying, leading or led, protecting or protected on a journey of loneliness with secret hopes.

The artist's oil paintings on view are bracingly full of information. Delicately dark female figures reflect fragments of hear no evil/see no evil/speak no evil. Her paintings are created by patches of deep color with violent brushstrokes revealing gestures of claustrophobia ready to burst out of the canvas.

She graduated from the Istanbul Marmara University with an MFA in sculpture and is pursuing her PhD at the same university. Her works have been included in major public collections.

Please enjoy your journey.
